" Black Denim Pants and Motorcycle Boots " is a song by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Recorded by The Cheers, he went to # 6 on Billboard's Best Selling chart in the fall of 1955, becoming the top ten hit of Leiber and Stoller first. Veteran veteran Vaughn Monroe covered the record, went to # 38 on the Billboard charts; the song also climbed to a top-10 chart performance on the Cash Box (which counts songs, not notes, and thus counts all cover versions of the song as one). In 1956, French chauuse Edith Piaf recorded a French translation of the song " L'Homme ÃÆ' la moto ," which became one of his biggest selling single.
The song tells the story of a motorcyclist, described as "the terror of Highway 101," and his loyal, but often neglected lover Mary Lou. In the song she begs him not to ride one night: "I have a feeling if you ride tonight I'm grieving" she tells him, but she ignores it and "hits the falling diesel" bound to California. "When the investigators arrived at the crash site, they found no traces of motorcycles or riders except their clothes, showing an interesting tone and chorus" He was wearing black denim and motorcycle boots and a black leather jacket with a hawk on his back, "the song is the second big hit for Cheers, after "Bazoom (I Need Your Lovin '). "It was also the first track to map out motorcycles and" new "motorcyclists, earning him the reputation of being the first biker song. The popularity coincided with the death of teen idol James Dean in a car accident a week after its release, and the disappearance and alleged death of the subject track made an important pioneer song from the phenomenon of teen tragedy song that appeared in the early 1960s.
The song is also recorded by Canadian group The Diamonds for the Coral Records label; Diamonds then achieved fame later with "Little Darlin". "In 1994, Chris Spedding recorded a new version of the song, it has also been recorded by Joan Morris and William Bolcom, and has been the subject of their concert repertoire.
In 1959, Dodie Stevens became famous for the parody of "Black Denim Trousers," "Pink Shoelaces", which used a different storyline and was less tragic.
