The Dark Story of Japan ( ??????? , Nihon no Kowai Yoru ) is a 2004 film anthology of five short horror stories, directed by five famous Japanese film directors, told through a mysterious old lady in kimono a midnight bus traveling in a long and isolated mountain road.

Plot: At a bus stop near Twilight Cemetery, an elegant old lady takes a bus late at night. He turns to the bus driver and asks, "Do you want to hear a frightening story?" He refused, but he firmly shared the story of a bus driver who had a ghost experience with a one-night okiku doll. At the end of the story, he sees us and asks, "What about you? Do you want to hear a frightening story?"
In each episode, the old lady shared a scary story relating to a bus with a different passenger before introducing the main story to us.

Episode 1: The Spiderwoman

Plot: Two magazine reporters pursue stories about local legend of a Spiderwoman. Although magazine circulation has jumped 20% after their dramatic article, they have not found any evidence to support their story. Then they heard about a young girl who claimed to have been attacked by the monster.

Episode 2: Crack

Plot: Visiting the apartment of a lost friend, a surprised young man found every crack and interior gap of the apartment sealed with red tape. After reviewing the computer and video files, it seems his friend is suffering from some kind of mental disorder where he is totally obsessed with the terror that someone is watching him. But how could the friend just disappear? When he and the apartment manager begin to remove a large number of red tape, very strange things begin to happen.

Plot: After doing a perfect deed of embezzlement, a Japanese board businessman lifts to escape. Riding with him were three unusual passengers, who slowly revealed how much they knew about him and what he had done. When the elevator suddenly breaks down, the real terror starts when he's stuck with a strange company inside the elevator and the police outside.
