History
Eye liners were first used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia as dark black lines around the eyes. In the early 10,000 BC, Egyptians and Mesopotamians wore various cosmetics including eye liners not only for aesthetics but for protecting the skin from the desert sun. Research also speculates that eye liners are used to protect the wearer from evil eyes. The characteristic of having lined eyes has often been portrayed in the art of ancient Egypt. They produce eye liners with a variety of materials, including copper ore and antimony. Ancient Egyptian cypress contains galena, imported from nearby areas in Tanah Punt, Coptos and West Asia.
In 1920, Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered, introducing the use of eye liner to the Western world. The 1920s were an era generally associated with many changes in women's fashion, and women feel freer to apply makeup more freely.
In the 1960s, liquid eye liners were used to create thick black and white stripes around the eyes in a makeup mode associated with designers like Mary Quant. The 60s and 70s also saw new fashion trends that use eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara with new ways of Goth and punk fashion using eyeliner for dark and dramatic effects.

The modern usage
At the end of the 20th and early 21st century, heavy eye liner use has been associated with Goth fashion and fashion punk. Eye liners of varying thickness levels have also been associated with emo subcultures and alternative lifestyles.
Eye liners are commonly used in daily make-up routines to determine the eye or create a wider or smaller eye appearance. Eye liners can be used as a tool to create different looks and highlight different features of the eye. Eye liners can be placed in different parts of the eye to create a different look with winged eye liner or tightly bound on the water surface. Eye liners can be drawn on the upper eyelashes or under the lower lashes or both, even on the line of your tears. The main goal is to make lashes look fertile, but also attract attention to the eyes and can improve or even change the shape of the eye. Eye liners are available in a variety of colors, from black, brown and gray are common for more adventurous such as bright base colors, pastels, frozen silver and gold, white and even shimmering colors.
Eye liners can also be used to indicate depression in a photo, such as the famous "Bleeding Mascara" .
Different modern uses
Although many eye liner users use it everyday for simple eye definitions, there are others who use it more than just an easy eyepiece. There are many eye liner styles. Most of them usually rotate around the winged eye liner, which defines around the shape of your upper eyelid and the line, about halfway toward the tip of the eyebrow. It is usually connected by defining at the top. But today there are some eye liner that is very fast.
Strict Layer
The tight layer is the use of a tight eye liner against the waterline under the upper lashes, and above the lashes from the bottom cover. Because of its proximity to the membrane, and the surface of the eye itself, a waterproof eye liner is preferred. The tight lining is a technique that makes the eyelashes appear further back on the eyelid, making it look longer. Gel eye liner and small tilt brush can be used to make this look.
Type
Depending on the texture, the eye liner can be gently tarnish or clearly defined. There are five main types of eye liners available in the market: each producing a different effect.
- Liquid liquid eye is an opaque liquid that usually comes in small bottles and is usually applied with a sharp-pointed brush. This creates a clean and precise line. Because the liquid eye liner gives a much heavier appearance, it is often applied only to the upper lash line.
- Eye-based eye pencil is the eye liner on a wooden pencil. Usually available in dark and dull colors.
- Wax-based pencil is a softer, waxy pencil that makes apps easier. They come in a variety of intense colors as well as more pale shades like white or beige. Eye wax based liners can also come in conical or compact form with brush applicators.
- Kohl eye liner is a fine powder available in matte dark color. It is most often used in black to describe the eyes. It comes with a pencil, solid powder, or loose powder form. This type of eye liner is more likely to blur.
- Gel eye liner , which is a softer liner gel, which can be easily applied with an eye liner brush. This can be applied appropriately and much more gently than Kohl.
