Karolina Dean ( karr -? - LEE -n? ), also briefly known as Lucy in the Sky , or LSD , is a fictitious character, a super hero who appears in an American comic book published by Marvel Comics. The characters first appear in the series Runaways . Like every original Runaways member, she is the daughter of a super-powerful evil villain; while searching for her parents' house, Karolina accidentally discovered that her parents were Majesdanian invaders. Majesdanians are an alien race that absorbs solar energy and re-emits it in the form of a rainbow color. He is often called "Kar" or "K" for short, and is known for his free spirit and good nature.

Karolina is the only lesbian character of the group. He is the only extraterrestrial in the group, except for the period when his Skrull fiancé Xavin became part of the team. The runaway creator Brian K. Vaughan played an important role in the development of the next character and artist/writer Adrian Alphona, both of whom spent most of the first volume of the series suggesting that Karolina was romantically attracted to fellow Nico Minoru members. With the relaunch of Runaways' , the main storyline of Karolina is its relationship with the Lightspeed Power Pack.

Karolina Dean was described by Virginia Gardner in the upstream Runaways television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fictional character biography

The Pride

Karolina is the daughter of famous Hollywood actors Frank and Leslie Dean, and the only other fugitive who did not watch their parents kill an innocent girl as a victim. Karolina denies the whole situation primarily, but eventually believes the group soon after finding out she is an alien. The children decide to go to a massive raid, and leave the house; before leaving for good, they decided to put their parents to court by collecting certain evidence from their home. When they arrived at the house of the Dean, they discovered the will and the last will from the parents of Karolina; Karolina was given a piece of paper with a circular "no symbol" surrounding Caduceus. Alex convinced him to remove his medical mark bracelet because it was emblazoned with symbols. Karolina angrily admits, thinking that she's only wearing a bracelet because she's allergic to iscellis pens, and her skin immediately shines with fluid, light like a rainbow. Given something they had heard of the sacrifice of Pride, the group considered Karolina to be an alien and the bracelet was an anchor to hide its power; Leslie Dean then confirms these theories for Karolina. After escaping from their parents, Karolina takes the name of Lucy in the Sky, a reference to a song of the same name.

Personality

At the start of the series, Karolina continues to struggle with her foreign heritage, feeling that she is "weird" among the group, the only one who needs to actively hide her true form. Another concern is his speculating homosexuality. His unrest even encouraged Karolina to offer her life to Topher's vampire, as Karolina expressed little desire to live. After his first near-death experience at the hands of Alex Wilder, Karolina overcame her death wishes and helped Runaways escape from the rampaging Gibborim while Pride against their former advocates. After the defeat of Pride, Karolina was sent to live with foster parents, but she set up a secret reunion for Runaways, after which they escaped again, this time to Pride's old nest under La Brea Tar Pits. Karolina is described as having a broad and free spirit, especially when she finds that she can fly. But he is also shown to be quite sensitive, often crying because of his pain and misfortune, and the pain and calamity of others.

As a fugitive

In the initial problem of Runaways, volume 2, Karolina fought under the command of de facto leader Nico. Karolina expresses more comfort by being an extraterrestrial and making strong hints to become a lesbian, especially when she stops to praise Julie Power on her beauty during a battle with Excelsior over Victor Mancha's guard and then even agrees to go on a date with her. following a mission with the Avengers Academy/Runaways (and will eventually become romantically involved). As soon as Victor joined the team, Karolina "came out" to Nico with a kiss experiment, which Nico rejected instantly. Karolina's "disillusionment" reappeared when Xavin's Skrull fiance came to Earth to look for her. Unbeknownst to them, Karolina's parents arranged Xavin and Karolina's marriage as part of a peace effort between Skrull and Majesdanian (species) homeworld. Karolina goes with Xavin, much to Nico's troubles.

While on his home planet, Majesdane, Karolina learned to control the shift between Majesdanian and his humanoid forms and how to further control the power of solar power. However, the marriage did not go as planned and the couple fled to Earth as their homeworld rekindled the old war. They crash land near the Hostel and return in time to help save Molly Hayes. Karolina has her parents' dreams of separating them. Karolina remains with the team and Xavin becomes accepted as a member after the death of Gertrude Yorkes, and they both join the Runaways in defeating Gibborim for good. When Runaways accidentally fled in 1907, Karolina met with Klara Prast, and convinced everyone to accept her on the team.

Deportation

In S.W.O.R.D. # 2, Karolina is one of the aliens kidnapped by Henry Gyrich in the "alien go home" policy. He uses pheromones to target the physiology of Majesdanian Karolina and takes him out of the Runaways and kidnaps him without difficulty. He was finally released along with other aliens. He helped save the Earth from a killer alien fleet. Abigail Brand, now the sole head of S.W.O.R.D., returns all aliens to Earth, assuring them that they will have their freedom and they each owe a virtue.

Recent activity

When Nico and Chase disappear, Karolina and Molly go to Hank Pym for help. Karolina then appeared on the Avengers Undercover pages where she and Molly visited Nico and Chase at S.H.I.E.L.D. detention center after Hazmat kills the Arcade. Karolina is now in a relationship with Julie Power of Power Pack and Excelsior.

Relationships with other Runaways

Karolina gets along well with other Runaways, and the only time she ever quarreled with them was after they questioned her about Xavin's gender. She has a sister type relationship with Molly, but a caring relationship with Chase and Victor, whom she both delighted after they lost a loved one. It subtly implies all the Runaways volume 1 that Karolina has a crush on Nico, but Karolina does not make her feelings explicitly known to volume 2, # 7 when she tries to kiss Nico. When Nico refused, Karolina felt depressed, just forgot alienation as the only alien team and now defeated as the only lesbian team. Just an hour later, Karolina was taken away by Xavin to get married, and left her medical warning bracelet with Nico as a warning sign. Karolina initially rejected Xavin when she told him that Karolina was promised to be her bride, but after hearing that marriage would be part of a peace agreement between her world and Xavin, Karolina felt more inclined to accept the proposal. He fully accepted when Xavin expressed no concern for changing the physical appearance of the man to woman to please him. Then, during the argument, Xavin was unconsciously restored to a female human form, which was equally surprising and pleased Karolina, who had previously expressed doubts about Xavin's true gender.

After Karolina goes with Xavin, Nico is depressed and immediately wants to cast a spell to bring Karolina back to Earth. Nico continues to miss Karolina as he is caught scattering between Karolina's clothes to remember and think of Gert as Karolina in the dark. When Karolina returns to Earth, she accidentally confesses to Xavin (who takes Nico's form to please her) that she still loves Nico, saying that she cares about Nico "more than he would know." But Karolina remained steadfast in her devotion to Xavin, and thus her feelings and attraction to Nico sometimes weighed on their friendship.

Strength and ability

Like all Majesdanian, Karolina's luminous, colorful, and visually fluid forms, often depicted with light waves like a rainbow floating on her body (Chase describes it as a "burning painting") although the body structure is essentially human. Initially, Karolina needed a medical warning bracelet made from an unspecified alien metal to return to a humanoid form. However, after spending months at Majesdane, Karolina learns to control change and can make it at will. In its Majesdanian form, Karolina is able to manipulate the solar energy absorbed by her body to produce large explosions, laser-like rays and force fields capable of stopping caves, shootings and explosions. Like his parents, Karolina learns the ability to bind people, binds New Pride in a colorful sphere. Majesdanian Karolina's form also gave him the ability to fly. During a meeting with the Topher vampire, it was revealed that Karolina's blood also has a sun-based nature, because drinking her blood causes Topher to burn.

The lack of strength of Karolina is that they have a limited charge. If he is in Majesdanian form too long or too impose his strength, his jets will begin to fade and return him to human form until he uses the sunlight to recharge. The only time he completely lost his power was when the Runaways fought against Gibborim to prevent Chase sacrificing himself. Leslie Dean stated at the beginning of the series that Majesdanian's ability did not affect each other.

Conceptual changes

In the original pitch of Brian K. Vaughan for the series, Karolina Dean was originally called Leslie. This name will eventually be given to the mother of the character. His parents were originally real estate agents, not famous actors. Molly's parents were meant to be famous, but redesigned as doctors.

The shape of Majesdanian Karolina has been colored in two different styles. Brian Reber, the first colorist Runaways , colored Karolina with many different colors from the visible spectrum from panel to panel. Christina Strain, the second colorist for Runaways, the color of Karolina with lighter tones, using blue, yellow, and pink with glitter-like effects.
