History

In 1973, the rehearsal dinner theater of the medieval was founded by Jose Montener on his property on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Then a private company was formed, and in 1977, a castle opened in Benidorm, Spain. With investor support, the event moved to the United States, the site of the First Middle Ages opened in Orlando on December 20, 1983. In 1989, the location was expanded with a unique medieval village that was not offered in other locations.

The second location opened in Buena Park, California in 1986. In 1992, the chain had five locations. In 1993, the sixth site opened in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the only international location, and housed in the Government House, the Beaux-Arts structure, as opposed to a replica of an 11th century castle. The seventh location opened in 1995 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In April 1997, the owner of Medieval Times sought bankruptcy protection after losing a court battle with the IRS which required Buena Park's location to pay $ 7.5 million and the Orlando location to pay $ 2.5 million in tax returns. According to the IRS, the Times of the Middle Ages improperly cut royalties, interest on loans, and management fees in the tax year 1987 and 1989. When asked why the company filed for bankruptcy, the company's bankruptcy lawyer Alan Friedman said, "one of the main reasons for filing is to prevent The IRS is beginning to take over any assets. "

The company emerged from bankruptcy, allowing all of its locations to continue operating. It then opened two additional Medieval, bringing the company to its current nine locations since 2006.

This chain is featured in the 1996 movie The Cable Guy , and feature film 2004 Garden State . It has also been featured in episodes of TV shows like Boss Cake, Hell's Kitchen and Celebrity Apprentice.

The show changes every six years. The new show aired in late 2017, and for the first time, the lead role was filled by a female queen. New events are currently being held at Schaumburg, Dallas and Lyndhurst locations.

Lord Chancellor, King's advisor and MC for the show, then introduces the royal knights and gives the story back to every part of the color. King Carlos, knight, bodyguard, and various slaves and virgins paraded out; The King and Chancellor then walked to the podium where they introduced Princess Catalina and called for a toast.

The Long Reins, or Long Lines section of the show shows horse skills, including Trot in Place, the Passage, and Capriole. Then Master Falconer releases an eagle, which flies around, often just above the guest's head. Chicken, corn, and potato parties are then served.

The King's guards perform choreographic maneuvers, and the Chancellor and Princess make birthday announcements or other special events. The mist and fog fill the arena, and the Herald of the North appears; he announced that his King, Lord Ulrich, promised a reward to Don Carlos if he would accept it. He agrees, though the Princess warns him of the threat that Lord Ulrich has brought to another kingdom.

Furthermore, the equestrian knights compete in the game, including capturing rings on spears, passing flags, and javelin throws. After each match, the Princess gives the carnival victory knights to be thrown at the women on their part. People from East and West then compete in the relay challenge. The Princess gives each winner the ribbon knight they present to a woman; this is the "queen of the tournament".

At this point the promised gift from Lord Ulrich arrived: a trained Andalusian stallion. Horse and male stallions do various tricks. The Herald of the North then announced that Lord Ulrich wanted to unite the two kingdoms by marrying Princess Catalina. Knowing the evil transaction of Lord Ulrich earlier, Don Carlos told the Herald to return to King with a rejection.

The jousts and fights begin; the winner changed from the show to the show. Large nets protect the audience from the wood chips from spears and flying weapons. For jousts, each knight takes the opponent from the opposite side; the winner is determined by the last to fall, and he is given a chance to attack the opponent with his weapon of choice in the next fight to death on foot. For a fight, a knight throws gloves to the other and they fight on horseback or on foot. The winner of the final match was named champion of the tournament, and chose one of the ladies from the audience to become the Queen of Love and Beauty.

The Herald of the North now declares that he must return to Lord Ulrich with the Princess or die in battle against the choice knight of the King. The king asks the Tournament Champion if he is willing to accept the Herald challenge. There was a climax battle with the Champion and his bodyguard against the Herald and his two bodyguards. The guards were slaughtered, and the Champion defeated the Herald. The king asks the Herald, now in the chain, to return to his King and withdraws his request, but the Herald says that he is better off dead. The king decides that the Herald is too daring to kill and punish him for life in prison. He was dragged into the dungeon.

The show ended with the celebration of the Champion knighthood; then all the characters appear in the arena to take their bow.
