The Predator (also known as Yautja or Hish-Qu-Ten ) is a fictitious extraterrestrial species displayed in Predator fictional science franchise, characterized by poaching of other species of trophics for sport. First introduced in 1987 as the main antagonist of Predator movies, Predator creatures are back in the sequel Predator 2 (1990) and Predator (2010)), with the upcoming installments The Predator (2018), and the Alien vs. crossover franchise. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

Predators have been the subject of many novels, video games, and comic books, both on their own and as part of a crossover trail of Alien vs. Predator . Although the definitive name for the species is not given in the film, the names Predator, Yautja , Hish-qu-Ten have been used alternatively in the expanded universe, indicating that two " Unique Predator-species "exist. Created by Jim's brothers and John Thomas, the Predator is described as a large humanoid, humane and living creature with advanced technology, such as active camouflage, direct-energy weapons, and interstellar travel. Both Yautja and Hish-Qu-Ten compete for the chance to enter the ritual of being "Blooded", a rating given to predators who have killed prey-worthy prey.

Concepts and creations

Design

The Predator design is credited to the special effects artist Stan Winston. While flying to Japan with James Cameron's director Aliens , Winston, who was hired to design the Predator, was performing an art concept on the flight. Cameron saw what he was drawing and said, "I always wanted to see something with my jaw." Winston then incorporated them into his design. Stan Stan Studio Studio creates all the physical effects for Predator and Predator 2 , creates body settings for actor Kevin Peter Hall and mechanical facial effects. The studio was hired after an attempt to create convincing monsters (including Jean-Claude Van Damme who wore a much different body suit) had failed. Arnold Schwarzenegger recommends Winston after his experience working on The Terminator .

Predators were originally designed with long necks, heads like dogs and single eyes. This design was abandoned when it was clear that the location of the forest would make shooting complex design too difficult. Initially, the studio contracted the makeup effect for aliens from Richard Film's Creature Shop Richard Edlund. However, the problem of alien filmmaking in Mexico caused the responsibility of the makeup effect to be given to Stan Winston. According to former Boss Film make-up supervisor Steve Johnson, makeup failed because of a handy design by McTiernan that included a 12-inch extension that gave the Predator a sark movement backwards. The design does not work in the forest location. After six weeks of filming in Palenque forest, Mexico, production had to be closed so Winston could make a new Predator. It took eight months and then the filming continued for five weeks, ending in February 1987.

Movie depiction

Jean-Claude Van Damme initially served as a Predator; The idea is that the star's ability in martial arts will make the Predator an agile ninja-esque hunter. When compared to Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse Ventura, actors known for their bodybuilding regimens, it became clear that a physically stronger man was needed to make the creature seem threatening. Eventually, Van Damme was removed from the film and replaced by actor and mime artist Kevin Peter Hall. Hall, standing at a height of 7 feet 2 inches (2.18 m), has just finished working as a sasquatch at Harry and Henderson.

Hall plays the Predator in the first and second films. He was trained in pantomime art and used many tribal dance movements in his performances, such as during the battle between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Predator at the end of the first film. In Predator 2 , according to featurette's "making", Danny Glover suggests Los Angeles Lakers to be the other Predator because Glover itself is a big fan. Hall persuaded some Lakers to play Predator backgrounds because they could not find anyone in such a short time. Hall died shortly after Predator 2 was released in theaters.

In Alien vs. Predator , Welsh actor Ian Whyte, standing at 7 feet 1 inch and a comedy fan and movie Predator , took over as a man in Predator clothes, depicting the Predator "Celtic" during his fight with Alien warriors. Whyte returns to describe the Predator "Wolves" in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem .

In Predators , actors Brian Steele and Carey Jones both describe a new generation of Predators known as "Super Black Predators", who have dropped humans on their planet for years to play a survival game against them. In nodding to the first film, Derek Mears plays a Predator when the creature appears in the original, dubbed the "Classic Predator".

Special effects and make-up

Predatory Blood is made from a combination of liquid from a glow stick mixed with K-Y Jelly. The mixture loses its jets quickly, so new batches must be made quickly between picks. This technique is used in all five movies featuring Predators.

The camouflage effect was designed by R/Greenberg Associates, under the direction of Joel Hynek. The idea for that effect appeared in the dream of one of Thomas's brothers (who wrote the film), where there was a chrome man inside the reflective field. The man blends in, disguised perfectly, reflecting from all directions and only visible while moving. The effect is made by repeating the image in a ripple pattern in the shape of the Predator body. It proved to be very effective and a new way to present "invisible human." Before any digital rendering technology, all camouflage is done optically using the means of photo-chemistry, so that a person will never get the same result twice from combining the same piece of film.

After the original movie, Amalgamated Dynamics took over from Stan Winston Studio in creating props for the Predator in the movie Alien vs. Predator and a number of home effects work on a variety of other effects.

Predatory

First appeared in the 1987 movie, Predator , an eponymous character landed in Val Verde through a space ship. He has come to this location because of the war between rebels and government troops, has made several killings among the locals before starting to hunt for US Army Special Forces troops who were sent there to rescue the presidential cabinet ministers kidnapped by guerrilla forces. Predators sent soldiers one by one with their weaponry arrangements until Major Dutch Schaeffer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) was the last to live. The Dutch finally confronted the creature, covering its body in mud to hide its heat from Predator heat imagery, and setting up a number of traps. Though he succeeded in disabling the ability of Predator divers, the Predator succeeded in capturing him, and then, in the Honor look, dumped his mask and his electronic weaponry before challenging the Dutch to the final duel. Physically unchallenged, the Dutch finally turned off one of its traps, which destroyed and killed the creature. After being asked what the Dutch did, the Predator merely copied his question and shut down his own self-destructive device before laughing madly, even though the Dutch managed to escape from the explosion.

Predator 2

Set in 1997, ten years after the first film event, the 1990 sequel follows a new Predator that directs its attention to Los Angeles because of the summer heat and drug wars between Jamaica and Colombia cartels, as well as L.A.P.D. trying to fight both gangs (Promotional material for the film says Predator is younger, and chooses densely populated urban areas for more ambitious hunting). After removing leaders from both gangs, Predator began actively targeting L.A.P.D. officers sought to investigate the results of his work, especially Lieutenant Michael Harrigan (Danny Glover) and three of his partners (RubÃÆ' Â © n Blades, MarÃÆ'a Conchita Alonso and Bill Paxton). Special agent Peter Keyes (Gary Busey), reportedly sent by DEA to investigate the cartel, but actually leads the secret Outworld Life Forms task force, tries to capture the living Predator for government studies but he and most of his OWLF teams defeated and slaughtered by their prey. Toward the end of the film, the Predator is finally confronted by Harrigan on his own ship and killed when Harrigan uses one of his own weapons against him. Predator clan friends disassembled and carried the dead Predator corpse and gave Harrigan fireworks dating from 1715 as a sign of respect. The film also makes reference to Alien films, as shown in the Predator trophy room, which has a skull very similar to Alien.

Alien vs. Predator

In 2004, a Predator ship arrived in Earth orbit to attract humans to the ancient Predator training ground in BouvetÃÆ'¸ya, an island about a thousand miles north of Antarctica. The buried pyramid that produces "hot blooms" attracts humans led by Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen), who unknowingly activates the Alien egg production line. Three Predator motorists entered the structure, killing all humans by the way they hunted the newly formed alien warriors. Two Predators die in the ensuing battle, and the third (credited as Scar in credit) allied with the only living human, Alexa Woods (Sanaa Lathan) to fight with the escaped Alien. The Queen was defeated, but not before she fatally injured the last Predator. Predator ships hovered over the battlefield and the crew took the fallen Predators. Elder Predator gave Alexa the spear as a sign of respect, then departed. After the Predator ship was in orbit, it was revealed that the chestburster was in the body of the Scar Predator, although the specimen had Predator mandibles.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Defined shortly after the previous film, the Predalien hybrid on board the Predator Scout, which had just been separated from the mother of the previous film, has evolved into a full adult size and set about killing Predators aboard, causing it to crash on board. Gunnison, Colorado. The last victim activates the distress signal with the Predalien video, which is received by the veteran Predator (Wolf), who leaves for Earth to "clear" the lice. When he arrived, the Predator tracked Aliens down to the sewer below the city. He omitted evidence of their presence as he went away using a corrosive blue liquid. He uses a laser net to try to contain creatures, but Aliens still manages to escape into the city above. The predator uses a plasma pistol from the remaining caster plasma, replacing the damaged one as he hunts the Alien across town (inadvertently cutting power to the city in the process) during a confrontation with a surviving human. Later, the Predator met the same human survivor again at Alien Hive and lost a plasma gun, with the last four humans taking it with them as they escaped from the city on a hospital helicopter. Predators then fought against Predalien alone, and two serious injuries to each other just as the United States military dropped a tactical nuclear bomb in the city, burning both combatants as well as some of the remaining people in the city. The rescued plasma gun was later taken by the US Military officer to Mrs. Yutani.

Predatory

In Predators (who deliberately distanced themselves from previous alien vs. Predator movies), it was revealed that there were two Predator tribes fighting: one group using a four-legged beast and outlining a trap to hunt , and others traditionally hunt. A group of international soldiers and dangerous criminals from different locations of Earth were dropped onto a wooded planet used as a reserve of the Predator game. After many small battles which resulted in the deaths of two Predators and all but two captured humans, the last Predator managed to kill other members of its kind from rival tribes, but was defeated in the battle by survivors. The victims then went to find a way back to their home, just in time to see more people dropped.

Predator (2018)

In June 2014, Fox announced a sequel that Shane Black would direct and co-write with Fred Dekker, and John Davis would produce.

Expanded universe

In the novel series of Aliens vs Predator (based on Dark Horse Comics) by David Bischoff, Steve and Stephani Perry, the Predator, known in the series as "yautja", is described as living in a matriarchal clan-based society that has in common with the strongest and most skilled group mentality in leading the group. Predators are described as sexually dimorphic mammals. Females are larger and stronger than males, and mammary gland sports more prominently (such as human females). Both sexes produce powerful musk to show aggression, and women can also transmit it when in estrus. These musk can be detected by Predators and other canids, though not visible to humans. Predators in Perry's novel are not monogamous, and it is common for veteran soldiers to become masters of hundreds of offspring (known as sucklings) with multiple partners. Also revealed that their blood has the ability to neutralize the acidity of Alien blood partially. Their religion is partially explored in the series, indicating that they are polytheistic, and that the equivalent of the Grim Reaper is the so-called "Black Warrior", who is seen as a perennial enemy who ultimately wins all the battles.

Although the female Predator is sometimes referred to in the series novels of Steve and Stephani Perry, one does not make an appearance until the comic book series is limited to Aliens vs Predator: Deadlyest of Species . The design of women contradicts the description given in Perry's novel series, as it superficially shows little difference from men.

The Darkhorse/TopCow crossover MindHunter , which fills Witchblade , Darkness , Aliens , and Predator franchise against each other, describe the female Predator in a way that is closer to Perry's description. It's very tall, has feminine hips, mammary glands, and a very muscular body, with armor different from men.

In the miniseries Randy Stradley Aliens vs. Predator: War , it is revealed through a narration of Machiko Noguchi's character that the Predator is responsible for the spread of Aliens throughout the galaxy, although the Predators themselves deny this, stating that their large interplanetary distribution is due to simultaneous convergent evolution.

Predator and Aliens vs. Predator series: The Three World Wars introduced the Predator clan, known as the "Murderer," which is the main enemy of the Predator (here called "Hunters") because their tradition of training Alien as an offensive animal rather than pursuing them, as well as their desire to kill as opposed to a respectable hunt. The character Machiko Noguchi noted in the # 1 edition of the Three World Wars that "You must understand the mindset of the Hunter, and the honor they place on facing a worthy opponent on the same footing... killing is the end result, but that's not the purpose of hunting.... For 'Killers', that's not the problem. They are all about murder. "They were first seen in the 2009 Predator series, where a disturbing number in the East African civil war , which became a conflict with humans and their Hunter counterparts. At the time of the Three World War Killers were assumed to have been destroyed by the Hunters, but some persisted and began to attack human colonies, forcing Noguchi to form an alliance between humans and Hunters to deal with them.

In the stand-alone John Shirley novel Predator: Forever Midnight, the Predator, now referred to as "Hish", is shown to have glands that lie between their collared neck and collarbone that secrete powerful hormones into their bloodstream and which drives them to hyper-aggression. When the gland is too aroused, it sends the creatures into a frenzied madness, causing them to try to kill any visible creature, including members of their own species. This "murderous anger" can be contagious and spread from one predator to another, encouraging them all to attack each other. Predators as a species barely survive the war triggered by their killing glands, and they have learned to control glandular secretions with artificial hormone regulators.

In graphic novels Ian Edginton and Alex Maleev Aliens vs. Predator: Eternal and videogame Predator: Jungle Concrete , Meat and blood predators, if consumed, are proven to have the capacity to greatly extend human life.

In the first-person shooting video game Call of Duty: Ghosts , the Predator appears as a hidden killstreak on the "Ruins" multiplayer map of the Devastation map package. Players can play as Predators for short periods by completing Field Orders and getting treatment packages. Predators are also guest characters that can be played through downloadable content in the Mortal Kombat X fighting game, as opposed to Alien.

In the tactical tactical video game Ghost Ghost of Tom Clancy: Wildlands , the live show titled "The Hunt" was released on December 14, 2017. During this event, players can take part in a bonus campaign mission in the Caimanes district to fight Predator, with the event lasting until January 2018.

Description

Characteristics

Predators are physically distinguished from humans with larger heights, arthropod-like mandibules and long, hair-like supplements in their heads that are set to their skulls (popularly regarded as "dreadlocks"). Their bodies are resistant to damage, able to recover from multiple gunshot wounds and radiation doses that would be fatal to humans. Their wounds however require medical attention and they incorporate a portable surgical kit in their armor for this purpose. They are also able to withstand extreme pain. Predators are much stronger than humans, depicted easily by adult human adults and crushing solid concrete with bare hands. They are also skilled climbers, and will easily move through trees or on rooftops to chase prey. Although able to withstand exposure in Antarctic temperatures for an extended period of time, it is implied that Predators have a preference for hot equatorial climates, and thus make them ectotherms. Their blood glow green phosphorus. Their vision operates primarily in the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum; they can easily detect heat differences around them but can not easily distinguish between objects with the same relative temperature. The Bio-mask Predator enhances its ability to view a wide spectrum, ranging from low infrared to ultraviolet high, and also filtering the surrounding heat from the area, enabling them to see things with greater clarity and detail. While they were able to breathe Earth's atmosphere, the creatures at Predator 2 were seen using a breathing mask after the loss of their helmets. (Although it should be noted that this Predator has just been shot several times and may therefore not yet operate at its full potential. that it is used to filter impurities in the air - waste and such - which will not be found in a more natural environment). Their dietary habits are also mentioned in Predator 2 , where it is revealed that the creature regularly visits the slaughterhouse every two days to feed the meat stored there.

Throughout the appearance of their films, Predators have experienced many design variations. In Predator 2 , the main Predator is designed to look more urban and hip than its predecessor. Design changes include tribal ornaments on the forehead, which are made steeper and shallower, brighter skin tones and more fangs. This predator is made less dependent on its plasma caster, and is more cunning with the use of nets, spears and bladed weapons. In Alien vs. Predator , Predator appearance is redesigned to make them look more heroic. Redesigns include reduced head and waist size, broader shoulders, more muscular shape, teeth like piranhas of the upper jaw, and smoother dryers and skin to better differentiate them from Alien. In Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem , Predator is returned to a slimmer design concept before Alien vs. Predator . For the so-called "Black Super Predators" in Predators, designers use the difference between cassette and iPod as an analogy in distinguishing new Predators from classics. Super Predators are designed to be slimmer and taller than the "classic" Predator design, and they have longer faces, tighter armor, and more are waving.

Culture and history

Predator culture revolves around the hunt and spies on dangerous living creatures. After committing the murder, the Predator usually skins or decapitates the carcass, turning it into a trophy. If immobilized or on the verge of death, a hunter will activate an explosive self-destructive mechanism on his bracelet, respectfully erasing his traces of existence to his prey. It is often mentioned that the reason for the Predator hunt is not for the sustenance or removal of threats, but as a sportsmanship or rite of passage, as they usually only attack life forms that have the ability to challenge them. In Predator , it was revealed that there were at least two different Predator tribes, involved in a longstanding blood feud. The film also introduces a pack of four-eyed, two-legged animals used as a rinse dog by the "Super Predator". Creator designer Gregory Nicotero used the hyena as the basis for the creature, and his thorns were added later by Chris Olivia.

Predators made contact with early human civilizations such as Ancient Egypt, Khmer Empire, and Aztecs, as well as a fictitious culture that inhabits what is now BouvetÃÆ'¸ya. Upon arriving on Earth, the Predators were worshiped as gods by humans, and they taught many civilizations how to build pyramids (an explanation why many of these different ancient societies had very similar cultures and architecture), but in return expected human sacrifices to be used as hosts for Xenomorph (Aliens) the main prey for initiates. The Predators return to BouvetÃÆ'¸ya every century to complete the bargain, to a point in the ritual, Xenomorph spreading out of control, causing the Predator to detonate a bomb that destroys all civilizations. The relationship between humans and Predators has deteriorated since then; Predators then see humans as little more than other mines to hunt.

Predators stand out in certain cultural folklore; some Latin Americans refer to the species as "El Diablo que hace trofeos de los hombres" (Spanish for "Satan who makes a man's cup"), and Jamaican superstition identifies the Predator as the evil spirit of the spirit of the world. When hunting humans, Predators usually avoid certain individuals such as children and some adults if they are unarmed, although they will save armed people if they are pregnant or sick unless they are attacked by them. A man who has managed to kill a Predator or Xenomorph in a single battle or has fought with a Predator is usually saved by his deceased hunter friend and given a gift (often a rare or exotic weapon) as a sign of respect.

The first successful alien hunt performed by the students is equipped with a sign from his helmet and forehead with the acidic blood of his murder. Hunters generally operate alone. Even when hunters appear in groups, they rarely do anything resembling teamwork. Predators use Alien as a prey, creating an artificial game backup by keeping Queens and even Facehuggers in captivity. This is shown in a brief scene in Aliens vs Predator: Requiem that the Predator has had previous contacts with a race of creatures that resemble "Space Jockey" in the film Alien . This is confirmed in the movie DVD commentary. Again, in the movie , when the main protagonist enters the Predator camp, there is a brief view of the Alien skull on the ground (as well as the lower jaw from Alien on the helmet of the Predator Berserker).

Language

Predator manuscripts are expressed in films and other media through a written pattern of lines. These written symbols appear on the gauntlet screen of living things, helmets, architecture, and many other surfaces. The most common vocalizations of the Predator consist of a series of clicks, roars, growls, and growls consisting of vocalizations of animal recordings such as lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, puma, black bears, grizzly bears, crocodiles, camels and elephants. Predators will imitate human language on certain occasions, and have been shown to use their helmets to understand and speak human language. Writer Steve Perry designed a set of languages built for the novel series Aliens vs. Predator .
