Writing style

In his criminal books, Ware's writing style is often compared to Agatha Christie's work. Ware has been admitted unconsciously influenced by Christie and other mystery novelists at the time. Ware's main character is usually an ordinary woman who finds herself in a dangerous situation involving crime. The first two Ware novels feature a murder mystery with a group of people trapped, or banned from immediately escaping from dangerous environments. Christie is best known for using this plot device, in novels like Murder in the Orient Express. Ware and Christie both choose settings and situations that foster fear that push their character to paranoia and often they react violently as a result. This environment creates a sense of alienation for events that will occur. Ware settings play a key role in drawing in the reader and are just as important and integral to the story as characters.
