After the cancellation of two further film proposals, the franchise was rebooted in 2005 with Batman Begins , directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale. Nolan returned to direct two further installments through the release of The Dark Knight in 2008 and The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, with Bale repeating his role in both films. 1940s

Batman (1943)

Batman is a 15-chapter movie series released in 1943 by Columbia Pictures and is the first appearance of a comic book character on film. The series starred Lewis Wilson as Batman and Douglas Croft as Robin. Being a World War II production era, many such film series from this period are used as war-time propaganda and have anti-Japanese bent with J. Carrol Naish playing Japanese villains, the original character named Dr. Daka. Rounding out the players were Shirley Patterson as Linda Page (Bruce Wayne's love interest), and William Austin as Alfred. The plot is based on Batman, a US government agent, trying to defeat the Japanese agent. Daka, at the height of World War II.

The film is famous for being the first film of Batman's appearance and to provide two core elements of the Batman myth. The film introduces "The Bat's Cave" and the Grandfather Clock entrance. The name was changed to Batcave for comics. William Austin, who plays Alfred, has a slim body and wore a thin mustache, while Alfred's contemporary comic version is overweight and cleanly shorn before the serial release. The comic version of Alfred is modified to fit in with Austin's, and keep it that way.

Batman and Robin (1949)

Batman and Robin is a 15-chapter movie series released in 1949 by Columbia Pictures. Robert Lowery plays Batman, while Johnny Duncan plays Robin. Supporters included Jane Adams as Vicki Vale and veteran character actor Lyle Talbot as Commissioner Gordon. 1970s and 80s

In the late 1970s, Batman's popularity faded. CBS is interested in producing the film Batman in Outer Space. Producer Michael Uslan and Benjamin Melniker purchased the Batman film rights from DC Comics on October 3, 1979. It was Uslan's wish "to make the definitive, dark, serious version of Batman as Bob Kane and Bill Finger had imagined in 1939." The creatures of the night; stalking the criminals in the shadows. "Richard Maibaum was approached to write a script with Guy Hamilton to direct, but both refused the offer.Uslan did not succeed by throwing Batman into film studios because they wanted the movie to be similar with the TV series of the 1960s, Columbia Pictures and United Artists were among those who rejected the film.

A disappointed Uslan then wrote a script titled Return of the Batman to give the film industry a better idea of his vision for the film. Uslan then compared his dark tone to the color of the The Dark Knight Returns , whose script was pre-dated by six years. In November 1979, producers Jon Peters and Casablanca FilmWorks, led by Peter Guber, joined the project. The four producers feel that it is best to film the development of the movie after that of Superman (1978). Uslan, Melniker and Guber attach Batman to Universal Pictures, but the studio rejects it. The project was announced publicly with a $ 15 million budget in July 1980 at the Comic Art Convention in New York. Casablanca FilmWorks was absorbed into PolyGram Pictures in 1980. Guber and Peters abandoned PolyGram Pictures in 1982 and took film rights with Batman with them, though PolyGram would maintain at least 7.5% of the benefits of the rights due to the agreement contract. Guber and Peters immediately set up a store at Warner Bros., which eventually decided to accept Batman .

Tom Mankiewicz completed the script titled The Batman in June 1983, focusing on the origins of Batman and Dick Grayson, with Joker and Rupert Thorne as villains, and Silver St. Cloud as a romantic interest. Mankiewicz takes inspiration from the limited series Batman: Strange Apparitions (ISBNÃ, 1-56389-500-5), written by Steve Englehart. The comic book artist Marshall Rogers, who worked with Englehart in Strange Apparitions, was hired for the art of concept. The Batman was later announced at the end of 1983 for a mid-1985 release date with a budget of $ 20 million. Initially, Mankiewicz wanted an unknown actor for Batman, William Holden for James Gordon, David Niven as Alfred Pennyworth and Peter O'Toole as the Penguin who want Mankiewicz described as a mafia with a low body temperature. Holden died in 1981 and Niven in 1983, so this will never happen. A number of filmmakers attached to the Mankiewicz script, including Ivan Reitman and Joe Dante. Reitman wants to throw Bill Murray as Batman. For Robin's role, Eddie Murphy and Michael J. Fox are the candidates. Nine rewrites were performed by nine separate authors. Most of them are based on Strange Appearance . However, it is the Mankiewicz script that is still used to guide the project.

Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher series (1989-1997)

Batman (1989)

Tim Burton took over as director of the first Batman film in 1986. Steve Englehart and Julie Hickson wrote the care of the film before Sam Hamm wrote the first scenario. Many A-list actors were considered for Batman's role before Michael Keaton was cast. Keaton was a controversial choice for the role since, in 1988, he became typecast as a comedy actor and many observers doubted he could portray a serious role. Jack Nicholson accepts the Joker role in tight conditions that dictate high salaries, partly from box office profits and shooting schedules. Nicholson's final salary is reported to reach $ 50 million. The main photography took place at Pinewood Studios from October 1988 to January 1989. The budget increased from $ 30 million to $ 48 million, while the 1988 Writers Guild of America broke down forcing Hamm to break up. The rewrites were done by Warren Skaaren, Charles McKeown, and Jonathan Gems. Batman received positive reviews, broke many box office records, and won an Academy Award for Best Art Direction. The film grossed over $ 400 million, and left a legacy over the modern perception of the superhero movie genre. Batman Returns (1992) Batman Returns

Burton initially did not want to direct the sequel because of his mixed emotions over the previous film. The first manuscript of Sam Hamm contains Penguins and Catwoman looking for treasure. Daniel Waters delivered a text that satisfied Burton, who convinced him to direct the film. Wesley Strick rewrote it unchanged, removing Harvey Dent and Robin's characterizations and rewriting the climax. Various A-list actresses lobbied hard for Catwoman's role before Michelle Pfeiffer was cast, while Danny DeVito signed to portray Penguin. Filming starts at Warner Bros. in Burbank, California in June 1991. Batman Returns was released with financial success, but Warner Bros. disappointed with box office movies that run because the acquisition is less than its predecessor. However, Batman Returns was released for generally positive reviews, although "parental reactions" criticized the film for containing violence and sexual innuendo that are not considered suitable for children. McDonald's closed the 'Happy Meal tie-in' for Batman Returns . Batman Forever Batman Forever (1995)

Although Batman Returns is a financial success, Warner Bros feels that movies should make more money. The studio decided to change the direction of the Batman movie series to be more important. Joel Schumacher replaced Tim Burton as a director, while Burton decided to remain as a producer. However, Michael Keaton did not like the new direction directed by the movie series, and was replaced by Val Kilmer as Batman. Chris O'Donnell was introduced as Robin, Jim Carrey starred as The Riddler, while Tommy Lee Jones starred in Two-Face. Filming began in September 1994, and Schumacher had problems communicating with Kilmer and Jones. Batman Forever was released on June 16, 1995 with financial success, generating over $ 350 million worldwide and three Academy Award nominations, but the film is filled with criticism from critics.

Batman & amp; Robin (1997)

After the release of Batman Forever, Warner Bros started development on Batman & amp; Robin , assigned him on the fast track for a persistent June 1997 release. Val Kilmer did not return, due to scheduling conflicts with The Saint , and was replaced by George Clooney. Arnold Schwarzenegger starred as Mr. Freeze, while Uma Thurman starred as Poison Ivy and Alicia Silverstone starred as Batgirl. Chris O'Donnell imitated his role as Robin. The subject of photography began in September 1996 and was completed in January 1997, two weeks ahead of schedule. Batman & amp; Robin was released on June 20, 1997, and received mainly negative reviews. Observers criticized the film for its action-packed and plebeian approach, and for homosexual innuendo added by Schumacher. However, the film was financially successful, but it remains the most commercially successful live-action film Batman . Batman & amp; Robin received a lot of nominations at the Razzie Awards and ranked among the worst-ranking superhero movies of all time.

Proposal for the fifth movie

Batman Unchained

During filming Batman & amp; Robin, Warner Bros. impressed with the daily, prompting them to immediately hire Joel Schumacher to repeat the task of directing him to the third movie. Author Akiva Goldsman, who works at Batman Forever and Batman & amp; Robin , denied the opportunity to write the script. In late 1996, Warner Bros. and Schumacher hired Mark Protosevich to write the script for the fifth Batman movie. The mid-1999 release date projected to be announced. Entitled Batman Unchained but often mistakenly referred to as Batman Triumphant, the Protosevich script makes Scarecrow the main villain and the Joker will return as a hallucination in Batman's mind caused by Scarecrow's fear of poison. Harley Quinn appeared as a supporting character, written as a Joker princess trying to kill Batman to avenge his father's death. George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell, and Alicia Silverstone are ready to re-show the roles of Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. Schumacher also approached Nicolas Cage for the Scarecrow role. However, when Batman & amp; Robin received a negative review and failed to outperform its predecessor, Warner Bros. not sure of their plans for Batman Unchained . The studio decided it's best to consider live-action films Batman Beyond and the adaptation of Frank Miller Batman: Year One . Warner Bros. will illuminate which idea suits them best. Schumacher feels he "owes [d] Batman film culture Batman .I will go back to basics and make a dark depiction of the Black Knights." He approached Warner Bros. to perform Batman: Year One in mid-1998.

Batman: DarKnight

Although Warner Bros. and Schumacher were interested in First Year Lee Shapiro, comic book buff, and Stephen Wise installed the studio with a script titled Batman: DarKnight in mid-1998. DarKnight, largely inspired by The Dark Knight Returns, asked Bruce Wayne to give up his crime-fighting career, and Dick Grayson attended Gotham University. Dr Jonathan Crane uses his position as professor of psychology at the University of Gotham and as chief psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum to experiment in fear (this element will appear in Batman Begins). During a vengeful confrontation with a colleague, Dr. Kirk Langstrom, Derek involuntarily initiated the transformation of Kirk into a creature known as Man-Bat. Gotham citizens believe in Man-Bat night activities as Batman's "bloodthirsty" reward. Bruce becomes Batman "to clear his name," and solve the Man-Bat mystery. Kirk struggles with his "man-vs-monster" syndrome, as he longs to reunite with his wife and take revenge on Crane, while Crane demands revenge on those responsible for his dismissal from Arkham and the university in the face of the truth about the past. Warner Bros. decided not to move forward with the project, and left Batman: DarKnight to support First Year and Batman Beyond.

Other proposals

Batman: First Year and Batman Beyond

In September 2000, Warner Bros. was developing a live action screen adaptation of Batman Beyond, written by Paul Dini, Neal Stephenson and Boaz Yakin, with the possibility of directing, as well as the adaptation of Frank Miller's 1987 comic book arc story < i> Batman: First Year . Although interested in Schumacher, Darren Aronofsky was hired to direct and write along with Miller, which he previously collaborated with a script not produced for Ronin. Convinced of developing a draft of Batman Beyond with the author but soon lost interest, and Warner Bros. ignored Batman Beyond almost instantly in support of Batman: First Year Aronofsky and Miller intends to reboot the Batman franchise, "it's somewhat based on comic books," says Aronofsky. "Get everything you can imagine about Batman! Everything! We're getting really new." The regular Aronofsky collaborator, Matthew Libatique, is designated as a cinematographer, and Christian Bale has been approached for the role of Batman. Coincidentally, Bale will act as Batman Begins . At the same time, Warner Bros. moving forward with Catwoman spin-off . Around 2001, Warner commissioned the screenplay of the film to The Wachowski's The Matrix, but The Wachowskis script did not convince Warner. Joss Whedon was then hired to rewrite the script, but as was the case with The Wachowski's script, Warner did not like the script. In June 2002, the studio decided to go ahead Batman vs. Superman and leave First Year .

Batman vs. Superman

Warner Bros. leaving the J. J. Abrams script for Superman: Flyby , which has been greened with McG for being directed. When McG came out to support Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Warner Bros. approached Wolfgang Petersen to direct Superman: Flyby, however, in August 2001, Andrew Kevin Walker installed Warner Bros.. an idea titled Batman vs Superman , attaching Petersen as a director. Superman: Flyby was postponed, and Akiva Goldsman was hired to rewrite Walker Batman vs. Superman .

The Goldsman draft, dated June 21, 2002, caused Bruce Wayne to suffer a mental breakdown after five years of his retirement from a crime battle. Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Gordon were all dead, but Bruce found some entertainment in his fiancée, Elizabeth Miller. Meanwhile, Clark Kent is struggling because of a recent divorce from Lois Lane. Clark and Bruce are close friends, and Clark is Bruce's best man. After Joker kills Elizabeth during their honeymoon, Bruce vows revenge, while Clark tries to restrain him. Bruce blames Clark for his death, and the two are at odds with each other. In the end, Lex Luthor was revealed to have masterminded the entire plot to make Batman and Superman destroy each other. Both decided to join and stop Luthor. Christian Bale, who will portray characters in Christopher Nolan's Batman movie trilogy, was simultaneously approached to portray Batman to Darren Aronofsky Batman: Year One while Josh Hartnett was offered the role of Superman.

The filming will begin in early 2003, with plans for a five to six month photo shoot. The release date was set for the summer of 2004. However, Warner Bros. canceled development to focus on the Superman and Batman projects after Abrams submitted another draft for Superman: Flyby . According to Petersen "[Warner Bros. 'chief] Alan Horn is very divided, because it is a very interesting concept to perform Batman versus Superman." In the opening scene of I Am Legend, a billboard displaying Superman symbols in Batman symbol in Times Square. This was intended as a joke by film writer, Akiva Goldsman, who also wrote the script for Batman vs Superman.

OnStar ads

The Batman OnStar is a series of six television commercials featuring Batman, created by Campbell-Ewald's ad-agency and aired from 2000 to early 2002.

The ads are based on a film series and are basically a merger of both directors' visuals. For example, Batmobile is used in Batman and Batman Returns, while Batsuit is a combination of what Val Kilmer uses in Batman Forever and George Clooney at Batman & amp; Robin The ad also features Danny Elfman Batman's theme from two Tim Burton movies.

Actor Bruce Thomas describes Batman in these advertisements, while Michael Gough imitates Alfred Pennyworth's role in one of his ads. Baywatch actress Brooke Burns plays Vicki Vale in the ad as well. Actor Brian Stepanek plays Riddler in one ad and Curtis Armstrong plays Joker on the other.

The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012) - Christopher Nolan

Batman Begins (2005)

Following the Batman's Batman rejected origin, Joss Whedon pitched in December 2002, Warner Bros.. hired Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer to Batman Begins script. This duo aims for a darker and more realistic tone, with humanity and realism becoming the basis of the film. The film is primarily taken in England and Chicago, and relies on traditional stunts and scale models with minimal use of computer-generated imagery. Christian Bale starred as Batman, Liam Neeson starred as Ra's al Ghul, and Cillian Murphy as The Scarecrow. Katie Holmes also starred in the film as Bruce's love interest, Rachel Dawes, the role she made for the film. Alfred, a former member of the British Army SAS played by Michael Caine and Jim Gordon played by Gary Oldman. The new Batmobile (called the Tumbler) and the more mobile Batsuit, both created specifically for the film. The film begins with the death of Bruce's parents and then explores his decision to leave Gotham and his training under the Killer League with Ra's al Ghul, before he rebels against the League and adopts the Batman mask, admitting that he can not justify their use of deadly powers. The League's attempt to attack Gotham uses the exhaust toxock that Jonathan Crane attacked, but Batman is able to defeat their plans, with Ra being killed when his train is in an accident while quarreling with Batman.

Batman Begins is commercially and critically successful. The film opens on June 15, 2005, in the United States and Canada in 3,858 theaters. It grossed $ 48 million on its opening weekend, eventually generating over $ 372 million worldwide. The film received 85% of the overall approval value of Rotten Tomatoes. Critics note that fear is a common motif throughout the film, and says it has a darker tone than previous Batman movies. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography and for three BAFTA awards. It's also listed in No. 81 on Empire "500 Greatest Movies of All Time" and has maintained standing on "Top 250" IMDb.com.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Christopher Nolan faked his duties as director, and brought his brother, Jonathan, to write the script for the second edition. The Dark Knight features Christian Bale repeating his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Heath Ledger as The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. The subject of photography began in April 2007 in Chicago and ends in November. Other locations include Pinewood Studios, the Ministry of Sound in London and Hong Kong. On January 22, 2008, after she finished filming The Dark Knight, Ledger died of a combination of bad prescription drugs. Warner Bros. has created a viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight , developing a promotional and trailer website that highlights Ledger's screenshot as a Joker, but after Ledger died, the studio refocused its promotional campaign. The film depicts Gotham trying to rebuild after Batman's actions have caused so much damage to organized crime families, aided by charismatic Prosecutor District attorney Harvey Dent, but the anarchist Joker's involvement threatens everything, because his actions led to the deaths of Rachel Dawes and Harvey being injured and changed to Two-Face. Although Batman was able to stop the Joker from forcing two ferries-one loaded with civilians and the other with prisoners-to destroy each other, he was forced to take the blame for the murders committed by Dent to ensure that the city maintained its hope for the future.

The film received widespread critical recognition, and made numerous notes during its theatrical performances. With over $ 1 billion in revenue worldwide, this is the 31st best-selling film of all time, not adjusted for inflation. The film received eight Academy Award nominations; won awards for Best Sound Editing and Ledger was posthumously awarded Best Supporting Actor.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Nolan wants the story for the third and final installment to keep her invested emotionally. "On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question," he reasoned, "how many good third films in a franchise can be named by people?" He came back from finding the necessary way to continue the story, but feared the middle of filming he would find an exaggerated sequel. The Dark Knight Rises is meant to complement Nilan's Batman trilogy. In December 2008, Nolan completed a rough outline of stories, before he committed to Inception . In February 2010, work on that scenario began with David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan. When Goyer went to work on a Superman reboot, Jonathan wrote a script based on his story by his brother and Goyer. Tom Hardy plays Bane and Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays John Blake, and Marion Cotillard plays the role of Miranda Tate. Filming started in May 2011 and ends in November. Nolan chose not to film in 3-D but, focusing on improving image quality and scale using the IMAX format, hopes to push the technological boundaries while still making the movie style consistent with the previous two. Nolan held several meetings with IMAX Vice President David Keighley to work on the projecting of film logistics on IMAX digital premises. The Dark Knight Rises features more IMAX shooting scenes than The Dark Knight . Cinematographer Wally Pfister expressed interest in film shooting entirely at IMAX. During the film, set for eight years after Dark Knight, the arrival of a new enemy Bane forced Bruce to return to his old role as Batman, only to find himself overrun and captured by Bane as Gotham cut off from the rest of the world with a prototype fusion generator The stolen Wayne Enterprises will explode in a few months. With the help of Selina Kyle's thief, Bruce is able to return to Gotham and defeat Bane while redeeming his image as Batman. The film ends with Bruce having a 'retiree' as Batman after pretending his death to live with Selina Kyle, evidence showing that he has passed on Batcave to new Allied Detective John Blake (first name Robin) while Gotham rebuilds it in Dark memory Knight's heroism.

Upon its release, The Dark Knight Rises received a positive and successful critical response at the box office, going beyond its predecessor and becoming the 19th best-selling film of all time over $ 1.08 billion. However, unlike his predecessors, the film was not nominated for an Oscar during his forth year at the 85th Academy Awards, much to the surprise of the film industry.

Proposed Justice League movie

Justice League: Mortal

In February 2007, during pre-production for The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. recruited a pair of husband-and-wife duo Michelle and Kieran Mulroney to create a Justice League script script featuring younger Batman. in a separate franchise. George Miller was hired to direct the next September, with Armie Hammer playing Batman a month later and Teresa Palmer as Talia al Ghul. Filming almost started at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney, but was forced back because of the Writer's Guild of America lawsuit, and again when the Australian Film Commission rejected 50% of Warner Bros. tax rebates. over the lack of Australian actors in the film. The production office was transferred to Vancouver Film Studios in Canada for the expected start of July 2008 and the planned summer theatrical release date of 2009, but Warner Bros finally canceled the Justice League after the success of The Dark Knight > Hammer's choice on his contract expires and the studio is more willing to continue with Christopher Nolan to complete the trilogy separately with the The Dark Knight Rises .

DC Extended Universe (2016-current)

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice <201> /span>

On June 13, 2013, a source from Warner Bros. told The Wrap that they were discussing more Man of Steel movies, as well as Superman/Batman, Wonder Woman. , and Aquaman. Warner Bros. announced that Superman and Batman will be united in a new movie, a follow-up to Man of Steel (2013), taking inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns comic and set for release in the year 2015. Goyer states in the Superman 75th Anniversary Panel at Comic-Con that Batman and Superman will be facing, and the title under consideration is Superman vs Batman or Batman vs Superman .

On August 22, 2013, The Hollywood Reporter announced the casting of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. On January 17, 2014, it was announced that the film had been postponed from the original July 17, 2015 release date to May 6, 2016, to give filmmakers "the time to fully realize their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story." Movie release moved again to March 25, 2016, "avoiding a high profile clash with Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016". At a certain point before the film, Wayne Manor was burned, with Bruce and Alfred moving to a smaller greenhouse above the Batcave. During the film, Bruce is subtly manipulated by Lex Luthor to perceive Superman as an alien who is too far away from humans to be entirely trusted, with Luthor intent on provoking a conflict between the two that will force Superman to kill or see Batman defeat 'God'. Bruce's implicit outlook is the result of the Joker killing Robin in some confrontations of the past, with Batman showing a lack of concern about whether he killed his opponents in battle and recruited certain criminals with the Bat's sign. However, when he faces Superman with a kryptonite weapon, he realizes how far he has fallen when Superman asked him to 'save Martha' (Luthor uses Martha Kent as a hostage to provoke Superman into confronting Batman), his own mother's reminders helped Batman realize what he has become and acknowledges that Superman is essentially human despite his strength. After Batman rescues Martha Kent from Luthor's henchmen, he fights with Superman and Wonder Woman's new hero to contain Kryptonia abnormalities that Luthor created to kill Superman, a battle that results in Superman's death when he stabs deformity with a kryptonite spear and stabs himself. Taking Luthor's metahuman files, Bruce declares that he intends to collect metahumans to prepare for future threats implied by Luthor. Suicide Squad (2016)

In February 2009, Warner Bros. is developing the Suicide Squad film, with Dan Lin production, and Justin Marks writing the script. In September 2014, David Ayer signed to direct and write a screenplay for the film. Charles Roven is also set to produce films. In November 2014 and March 2015, it was announced that Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and Joker will appear in the films photographed by Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Jared Leto respectively. Batman appeared in a brief flashback where he was involved in the capture of Deadshot and Harley Quinn, saving Harley from a drowning car after an accident during the chase and he was abandoned by the Joker, and capturing Deadshot after anonymous tip took him to the killer because Deadshot was shopping with his daughter. Batman's history with Killer Croc is also briefly referred to. At the conclusion of the film, Amanda Waller - who seems to know that Bruce Wayne is Batman - provides Bruce with files in various metahumans in exchange for his protection from the future collapse of the recent Enchantress attack, Bruce informs Waller to close Task Force X because of his friends will handle future problems.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Although he does not appear physically, Bruce Wayne is strongly referred to in Wonder Woman. After the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce managed to take a photo from Lex Luthor's archive that he used to threaten Diana, along with the father's wristwatch from Captain Steve Trevor. He hauls them through an armored car to Diana, with a letter that wants to know his story someday. Diana recalled the film's episode as a flashback, after which she sent E-mails to Bruce, thanking her for "Bringing Him back to her".

Justice League (2017)

Shortly after the filming was finished for Warner Bros., Warner Bros hired Will Beall to create a new Justice League movie script in June 2012. With the release of Man of Steel in June 2013, Goyer was hired to write the new Justice League script, with Beall's draft canceled. In April 2014, it was announced that Zack Snyder would also direct the Goyer Justice League script. Warner Bros. reportedly approached Chris Terrio to rewrite the Justice League the following July, after being impressed with the rewriting of Batman v Superman .

Untitled Justice League sequel

In March 2016, it was revealed that Affleck signed a three-picture deal that took him through the 2019 sequel, while also having a small appearance on Suicide Squad.

Batman

In July 2015, Ben Affleck was in talks to star in, write alongside Geoff Johns, and maybe direct a stand-alone Batman movie Batman. In March 2016, Johns claims that the appearance of Robin's clothing covered in graffiti from Dawn of Justice will be explored later and the identity of the deceased character is intentionally undetermined. Following the release of Dawn of Justice, William Morris Endeavor's co-CEO, Patrick Whitesell confirmed that Affleck has written a screenplay for the Batman film he hopes to be selected by Warner Bros. and also directed. Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara asserted in April 2016 that the studio was moving forward with a stand-alone film under Affleck Batman , which will be starred and directed by the actor. In May 2016, Jeremy Irons confirmed that he was "tied to The Batman", while Affleck stated that his solo Batman would borrow from the comic, but mainly the "original story". In August 2016, Jared Leto expressed his hope that his version of the Joker will appear in Affleck's solo film Batman . Later that month, Deathstroke was mocked by Affleck through experimental recordings, later confirmed by Johns that the character would be played by Joe Manganiello. In October 2016, Affleck declared the title meant for the film is The Batman , but later clarified that the movie could end up with a different title. Manganiello and Irons stated that the filming will begin in spring 2017.

In December 2016, Affleck confirmed that the film is on track to begin filming in the spring of 2017. Later that month, Warner Bros. executives. Greg Silverman stated that the film will be released in 2018. Around the same time, Affleck stated that the film has no script and he may not direct it.
