" Eclipse " is the tenth and final song of the progressive British rock album Pink Floyd 1973, Dark Side of the Moon . It was sung by Roger Waters, in harmony by David Gilmour and Rick Wright. After Waters left the band, Gilmour sang the main song while performing live. This song is one of the few that should be considered for the best of band album, Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd .

Composition

This song serves as the end of the album and displays the loud and repetitive melodies that are formed, then ends with a very quiet output. When the main instrumentation ends at 1:30, the heartbeat sound from the first song, "Speak to Me", appears, which reappears in 9/8, and gradually fades to silence.

Harmonious, this song consists of repeated 4-bar chord progression: D, D/C, B? Maj7, and A7sus4 decided to A7. The bass line is the descending tetrachord.

David Gilmour recorded two rhythm guitar tracks, played arpeggios, one in an open position, and another one taller, around the tenth fret. The low-pitched guitar parts include the G and E strings open during B? Maj7, so added the sixth and fourth dissonant dissonant. The quartet of female backing singers varies on their part, rises in volume, and echoes some of Roger Waters's lyrics, as the song develops in intensity. On the last repetition of chord progressions, B? Maj7 leads directly to the climax of D major, producing a "bright" effect (known as the third Picardy), as a minor D implication on the B chord? Maj7 shifted to majors.

Waters wrote the lyrics on the road for the closing sequence of "Brain Damage"/"Eclipse" as he felt the whole "unfinished" part. The last words are sung on the song and, indeed the album The Dark Side of the Moon, directs the listener, "and everything under the sun is in harmony, but the sun is obstructed by the moon." Waters explains the meaning of these words as well as the whole song by asserting:

I do not see it as a riddle. This album uses the sun and the moon as a symbol; light and dark; The good and the bad; a life force that goes against the power of death. I think this is a very simple statement saying that all the good things life has to offer are there for us to grasp, but the influence of dark forces in our nature prevents us from taking them. This song speaks to the listener and says that if you, the listener, are influenced by that power, and if that power worries you, I also feel the same way. The line 'I'll see you on the dark side of the moon' is I'm talking to the listener, saying, 'I know you have bad feelings and encouragement because I also way I can make direct contact with you is sharing with you the fact that I feel bad sometimes.

The doorman of Abbey Road Studios, Gerry O'Driscoll, was heard speaking at 1:37, answering the question: "What is the dark side of the moon"? "with:" There is no dark side on the moon, really. In fact, everything is dark. The only thing that makes it look bright is the sun. "

Part of the orchestral version of the Beatles song "Ticket to Ride" can be heard faintly at the end of the recording. It was unintentional: music was playing in the background at Abbey Road when Gerry O'Driscoll was being recorded. This is not included in the 1983 Japanese Black CD Triangle CD of the album or remastered version of the FLAC album; the sound technician copies one of the heartbeat samples, removes the "Ticket to Drive" orchestra, repeatedly inserts the sample and fades the new output.

Usage

On March 10, 2004, the song was used to build the probable Mars probability. It was chosen in recognition of the Phobos transit of the moon of Mars. This is not the first time Pink Floyd has played in space; Russian cosmonauts picked up and played early copies of Delicate Sound of Thunder on board the Soyuz TM-7, making it the first album to be played in space.

The song is also used at the end of the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London called "And in the end", immediately after lighting the crater by seven young athletes. The song was played during the fireworks show and pictures of the famous Olympians were projected onto the screen, culminating with a view of the Olympic ring on Earth from a balloon launched at the start of the ceremony.

In The Sopranos episode of "Mergers and Acquisitions", the song was finished when Tony Soprano got up from listening to all the Dark Side of the Moon.
