Another series of stories is the X-Men: Legacy # 226-227, written by Mike Carey, describing the fight between X-Men and Dark Avengers from an outsider's point of view, especially Rogue and First Step. It starts a new direction for the series that starts at X-Men: Legacy Annual .

The main storyline leads to Dark Government: List - Uncanny X-Men , also written by Fraction, which then leads to the next Uncanny X-Men arc. The Dark X-Men: The Confession one-shot was written by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle of X-Force . The second bow of the New Mutant volume is handled with the result of Utopia on the team.

Build-up

After the events of the "Messiah Complex" storyline, Cyclops ordered Wolverine to form a new X-Force team to act as his own covert black-ops squad, something Cyclops himself reveals to anyone outside the team, especially the X-Men co-leaders and his lover, Emma Frost. Also, in the one-shot Secret Invasion: Dark Reign one-shot, at the first Cabal meeting, Osborn promised Frost to leave the San Francisco mutant community alone, provided he kept them under control. Emma keeps the fact that she belongs to Kabala from Cyclops. These secrets almost cause division in their relationship, but they eventually reveal the truth to each other, promising not to keep secrets any longer.

Another event of note occurred at the beginning of the Complex Messiah, at the birthplace of a new mutant boy in Cooperstown, Alaska, a battle ensued between Robber and Purifier, where the city was destroyed. After that, Simon Trask, the original Sentinel brother-maker, Bolivar Trask, a violent anti-mutant political activist, has called for the creation of mutant reproduction rights laws. Trask's influence has resulted in many countries supporting anti-mutant laws, which in turn caused turmoil in the mutant community.

Post Utopia

After Utopia follows the book Deadpool and New Avengers :

After deciding to help people, Deadpool went to San Francisco to start a new life. Dressing to 'fit in' (Deadpool wore a set of flamboyant shorts and pink shirts), Wade was almost hooked to kill a bunch of swindlers, until two teenagers told him that no matter what, he was beautiful. Content by praise, Wade allows the heckler to live and heads to a local bar where he beats (and probably kills) a group of sailors and bartenders. Again feeling sad, Wade watched Cyclops talk about the world about Utopia. Seeing Cyclops urges all the mutants to join them, Deadpool concluded that Cyclops spoke to him specifically and decided to join X-Men.

Meanwhile, in New York, New Avengers watches the news in which Osborn has labeled X-Men and all mutants in Utopia as a traitor and pointed to Utopia a prison colony. Ronin, upon hearing this, became very angry. Mockingbird and Ms. Marvel suggested that the team go to Utopia and help their friends, but Ronin disagreed and urged other New Avengers to join him in killing Norman Osborn.
