Packaged food products sold in India are required to be labeled with mandatory markers to distinguish between lacto-vegetarian and non-lacto-vegetarian. This symbol is valid after the 2006 Food Safety and Standard (Packaging and Labeling) Law, and received compulsory status after the framing of each regulation (Food Safety and Standard Rules [Packaging and Labeling] in 2011. According to law, vegetarian food should identified with green symbols and non-vegetarian food with brown symbols.
The restaurant uses the Vegan Friendly sign to volunteer to show the availability of the vegan option. Packaged food manufacturers also use variations from Vegetarian Friendly to mark their vegan offerings.
