The German chocolate cake , also the German chocolate cake , is a chocolate-covered chocolate cake from the United States filled and covered with coconut-pecan frosting. It owes its name to an English-American chocolate maker named Samuel German, who developed a dark chocolate cake formulation that came to use in a cake recipe. The sweet chocolate cake is traditionally used to taste chocolate in actual cakes, but some recipes call it today. Charging and/or topping is a pudding made with egg yolks and evaporated milk; after the pudding is cooked, the coconut and pecans are stirred. Occasionally, chocolate frosting is spread over the side of the cake and is filtered around the perimeter of the layer to hold. Maraschino cherries are sometimes added as decoration.

History

The roots can be traced back to 1852 when American baker Samuel German developed a dark cake chocolate type for the Baker Chocolate Company. The brand name of the product, Chocolate Manis Baker's German , is named in honor of her.

On June 3, 1957, the recipe for "German Chocolate Cake" appeared as "Today's Recipe" at The Dallas Morning News . It's made by Mrs. George Clay, a housewife from 3831 Academy Drive, Dallas, Texas. This recipe uses grilled chocolate that was introduced 105 years earlier and became very popular. General Foods, which owns the Baker brand at the time, pays attention to and distributes the recipe to another newspaper in the country. The sale of Baker's Chocolate is said to have risen as much as 73% and the cake will be the national staple food. The possessive form (German) was dropped in the next publication, establishing the identity of the "German Chocolate Cake" and giving the wrong impression of German origin.

The recipe has remained popular to this day and has been adopted by the cake company.

June 11th is the German National Chocolate Cake Day in America.
