History

Benedict Dollars moved from Toledo, Ohio to Coldwater in 1894 and bought a brewery that was once located near this home location. The Doll family originally lived in a brewery, but in 1899 the family had grown into six children. The benefits of the brewery also grew, and that year Doll has built this house. The family moved in January 1900.

Coldwater chose to be a dry city in 1909, leaving its factory out of business. Doll turned to sell ice, and also operate a garbage disposal service. As automotive traffic increased along Chicago Road, Doll and his sons opened a gas station, and then a restaurant near the brewery. Benedict Doll continued to live in this house until his death in 1941. His wife continued to stay at home until his death in 1955, and some of the couple's children occupied the house until it was sold out of the family in 1985.
