Synodontis schoutedeni , known as onespot squeaker , yellow Sinodontis marble , is a reverse catfish species. comes from the Congo Basin in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo. It was first described by Belgian ichthyologist Lore Rose David in 1936, based on the holotype found in Basongo, in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. The specific name "schoutedeni" is named after the Belgian zoologist Henri Schouteden.

Description

The fish is cream-colored with a brownish-colored marble pattern on the head, body, and adipose fins. Other fins are clear with dark spots. The pattern of color in fish tends to become more pronounced in older individuals.

Like other members of the genus, these fish have a humeral process, which is a bone spike that attaches to a hardened headgear on a fish and can be seen extending beyond the opening of the gills. The first rays of the dorsal fin and pectoral fins have the first rays of hardened jagged ones. The branched tail fins. It has short conical teeth in the upper jaw. In the lower jaw, the teeth are shaped and move. This fish has a pair of dark jaw long jaws, which reach as far as the base of the abdominal fin, and two pairs of mandibular thorns that are often branched off. This species grows to a standard length of 12.7 cm (5.0 inches) although specimens up to 17.1 centimeters (6.7 inches) in total length have been recorded in the wild.

Habitat

In the wild, species inhabit tropical waters with a temperature range of 22 to 26 Â ° C (72 to 79 Â ° F), pH 6.0 - 7.5, and a dH range of 4-15. It has been found in the central Congo river basin and in the Malebo Pond. It is harvested for human consumption.
