Arts

Style and influence

In an interview, Kerli remembered buying Laured Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" (which she called "one of her favorite notes of all time") at a metro station in Russia. He asks them to "give something really good", "something people buy". He was given the greatest Hits by BjÃÆ'¶rk, which he did not know at the time. He now calls BjÃÆ'¶rk the main influence and his favorite musician. Kerli quoted Bonnie Tyler and Phil Collins as his influence and recorded only two albums he had before.

Among other influences are Anouk, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, Massive Attack, Kidney Lover, Pendulum, Cocteau Twins, Perfect Circle, Deftone, Incubus, Apparat, and Imogen Heap.

Artists like [Imogen Heap] are my greatest inspiration because when Imogen won the Grammy for engineering, for me it was the real thing. There are others who write your notes and things 'pop star fame', I can not really connect with it at all. I support Imogen. I support BjÃÆ'¶rk. I support them. And I try to make that essence and inspiration [in my music] and make it a bit more pop.

Kerli also attributes her belief in angels and fairies to be influences in her music, and says the song "Xtal" by Aphex Twin is "her favorite work of all time". He also talks about the influence of Sigur RÃÆ'³s and has called them his favorite band.

After the release of Love Is Dead, Kerli was labeled as "goth" and a critic who disagrees to say she is more along the lines of "goth bubblegum." Kerli states "that's what I am" and that she "will take this concept and roll over with it" and she creates a derivative of "BubbleGoth." Described by Kerli, BubbleGoth is "bringing together the light and dark, the opposite, and the things you do not really need to think together." Kerli cites Spice Girls as a major influence on BubbleGoth, which he claims is "like a gothic spice girl".

Kerli likes to wear a variety of unique and colorful hairstyles, often inspired by cyberpunk and fashion goth.

The differences in music styles and compositions in Love Is Dead compared to Kerli's second album material is significant. Love Is Dead becomes an alternative stone and new material is along the synthpop line. Kerli describes herself as very depressed during the production of Love Is Dead and that she feels "scattered" and describes the transition to new sounds in an attempt to "make her really radio-friendly without losing what people already like about [him]. "Responding to the criticism of his voice compared to an older voice, Kerli said he was" not the same person anymore ", stating" Maybe I will be on my third album. "Maybe I will be really depressed and write another really dark.I do not know where I'm going.I know is that I will only always try to grow and do my best. And whatever comes out of me will only be a reflection of who I am at that moment. "

Public image

Kerli often uses three dots called "moon marks" that represent integrity, love and unity, three things that the Moon Kids also follow: the street fan community formed by Kerli in 2006 for people who "feel too much and find it difficult to exist in this world, so they will not think they are crazy. "It originally started as a" meeting for Indigo children "but evolved into" the Integrity movement, Love and Unity "which" strives to be the best you can , take responsibility for your reality and live with open eyes. This is not some thing of religious preaching, it's better to be a passenger in this dimension, trying to leverage your experience and strive for perfection while understanding it's okay not to be perfect. "

In terms of LGBT rights, he has stated that he hopes "the world will be in a place where everyone can equally marry, adopt and live their lives without having to explain themselves" and that it is "not a matter of political view, it is a matter of human rights human beings All human beings should have equal rights, righteous or gay As long as someone likes to go to church and believe in God and it makes them better, better, is great.. Once hatred and superiority come to play, I am opposed religion. "He stated that in Estonia," there really is no gay scene "but" it starts to show up, and [he] tries to support it as much as [he] can. " In June 2011 and 2012, Kerli performed at prestigious festivals in Boston, Detroit, Nashville, and San Francisco. He is also a participant in the NOH8 Campaign.

In 2011, Kerli was listed as one of 100 Most Influential Estonian Women.

Personal life

At the age of 15, Kerli asked her mother for a tattoo that read "music" in Chinese ("??"). Doubtful, his mother told him that if he read "every book in town" in China and wrote a report about it, he would be allowed to get a tattoo. Kerli did what was required, and her mother took her to get a tattoo the day before her 16th birthday. He has two tattoos on his arm; one of them is a butterfly that symbolizes "life every day as it is the last" and that he will never "leave someone he [love] without them knowing how much [he] loves them". The other tattoo countries are in Latin "Amicus Humani Generis", which Kerli translates "a human friend". The tattoo on his left arm, again in Latin, reads "Agnus Dei". On his right foot, he has the letter "E", the beginning of someone who "broken [his] heart".

Despite not having any religion, or labeling himself, Kerli believed in reincarnation as well as other forms of life after death, the fairy (which he called the great element of his life), angels, and demons, when defining them as "reflection" of " the inner light "one and the" inner darkness ", respectively. But, besides thanking his guardian angel in the liner note for Love Is Dead , he also states that he feels an angel is a creature, and uses an "angel card".

Kerli said she had a bipolar disorder and tried to commit suicide when she was 17 as a result of her troubled care, stating that her background had "made [him] stronger and now [she] could be here for other children who like [him]] "and that he likes to live, describes life as" a beautiful and rare gift ". During a live video chat with fans on October 7, 2011, Kerli recalled when she was 17 years old and would ask her local doctor to drug him with drugs because it "hurt [him] to wake up" because of her depression. She also remembers an incident when she was alone at home at the age of 17, where she covered the window with a dark towel to block out the sun and began cutting herself and slitting her arm with a rusty scissors, stating that she "wanted to die" and "could not" feel physical pain at all because [he] is only very sick inside ".
